Last week when I woke up and saw Gollum staring back at me I thought “you’re not ugly, sis.. you’re just getting your period.” And I was right.
So why is it that we all look like shit during our periods?
As luck would have it, there’s an actual scientific reason…
During our period is when estrogen and progesterone levels are bottomed out.
Estrogen is responsible for collagen production, as well as angiogenesis (new blood cells forming).
So when your estrogen is low you’ll notice fine lines and wrinkles become much more prominent. And less blood cell formation means your skin will look dull.
Progesterone, on the other hand, is essential for skin hydration and is a natural diuretic.
So when progesterone is low skin not only feels drier and less firm, but the body also retains more water, leading to bloating and puffiness.
So what can you do to not spend an entire week looking like Gollum?
Start every morning with lymphatic drainage massage. 1 pump of SKINxErin Pre-Cleanse Oil + 2-5 minutes of facial massage = blood flowing and reduced puffiness. Makes a big difference!
Add a couple more drops of Hydrating Beauty Oil AM & PM to combat the dryness and collagen loss.
Along with your period comes increased inflammation. To reduce that inflammation, reduce bloating, and increase blood flow.. Skip the workout and go for a gentle walk instead.
I always tell my Sisterhood Community there is a list of things you should never analyze when you have your period...
▶ your appearance
▶ your weight
▶ your happiness
▶ your mental health
▶ your emotional health
▶ your productivity
▶ your life choices
▶ your bank account
▶ your family
▶ your friends
▶ your significant other
